Are You Hungry?
Adapted from a Daily Devotional by Andrew Wommack
People eat even when they aren't hungry all the time. Many of us can prove that by turning sideways and looking in the mirror!
But when it comes to the things of God, only those who are hungry can get fed.
One of the worst things that can happen to us is spiritual complacency—feeling full and resting on our blessed assurance!
Being hungry for the things of God is one of the best things that can happen to us. Most people don't feel that way. They would rather have the feeling of being full. But Jesus promised us that fullness would follow hunger. No hunger, no fullness.
Therefore, what many people don’t like and some even hate is actually a sign of spiritual health. Longing for more of God is a healthy sign because no one hungers for God on their own. That’s not our nature. No one hungers for God unless the Spirit of God draws him.
“No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him….” —John 6:44
Being hungry for God doesn't make God move in our lives, but it is a sign that God is already at work in us. He is drawing us to Him because He created us for relationship with Him. And as we spend time with Him, the Holy Spirit leads and guides us into all truth and shows us things to come (Jn. 16:13).
We should praise God for spiritual hunger and be encouraged. He doesn't make us hungry and then let us starve! He makes us hungry so He can fill us with wisdom and truth and all of His blessings and love.
We need an insatiable hunger that won’t be satisfied until Jesus comes back for His bride and we are seated at the marriage supper of the Lamb!
