Seated At The Table
By Barry Bennett
And she said, "Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters' table," (Matt. 15:27).
In this familiar gospel story, a non-Jewish woman approaches Jesus on behalf of her demon-possessed daughter. Jesus’ response speaks to the fact that in His earthly ministry, He was sent to Israel and not to the Gentile nations.
Nevertheless, the woman’s persistence and humility moved Jesus to grant her desire.
Even today in the church, there are many believers who simply hope to eat of the crumbs from the Master’s table. They see themselves on the outside looking in. They are all too aware of their failings and weaknesses. They don’t feel qualified to receive from God, but maybe if someone else could pray for them, something might happen. Who knows?
This is the mindset of someone who is under the table looking for crumbs.
I have good news for you: If you have believed in Jesus, then you are seated at the table with Him! It doesn’t matter if you are strong or weak, young or old, or victorious or defeated. It doesn’t matter if you feel worthy or unworthy, loved or unloved. You are a child of God—a co-heir with Jesus, and you are seated next to Him at the banquet table.
God loves you with an everlasting, non-condemning love. He brought you into His presence (His life) because He loves you, and everything on the table is free. Take what you want. Righteousness, peace, joy, comfort, healing, faith and victory are all being served.
