How Faith, the Word, and a Bible College Transformed My Life
As I reflect on my journey to Bible college, I can’t help but look even further back to where it all began—the moment I was born again. It didn’t start in a sanctuary; it started at Texas A&M, fresh off my 18th birthday, stepping headfirst into college life.
Let’s just say, I was a quick learner—in all the wrong ways. Partying, drinking, rebellion… you name it. For two years, I ran hard and fast from God. I even walked out of a car in the rain because someone tried to tell me about Jesus.
But God had other plans.
Counting the Cost: A Real Commitment
Everything changed when my roommate came back from summer break and told me he’d become a Christian. It shook me. This was the same guy who partied with me. Now he wasn’t cussing, smoking, or drinking. It was wild.
That moment sparked something in me. From August to November of that year, I began to contemplate what it meant to follow Jesus. I had heard the gospel, but this time I was really considering it. I wasn’t interested in a trial run. I was either all in or all out.
Jesus Himself said, “Count the cost.” And I did. In my youthful mind, giving up beer seemed like the biggest sacrifice in the world. Silly now, but that process planted something deep—a root.
Falling in Love with the Word
After giving my life to the Lord, I fell hard—for the Bible. I bought a paperback New Testament, wrapped it in a custom denim cover (because cool matters when you’re 20), and highlighted every verse I understood. Jeremiah 15:16 became my life verse:
“Your words were found, and I ate them, and Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart.”
To this day, every time I open my Bible, I get that shiver. I know something life-changing is about to happen.
Divine Provision and the Bible College Miracle
When life caught up to me and I was no longer in school, I found work in Christian bookstores. One day, I spotted a magazine about a Bible school in Dallas. With only enough money for the summer term, I went in faith.
That step opened doors I couldn’t have imagined. The school normally didn’t hire American students, but I was the exception. I worked my way through two years of tuition-free Bible school. Even more amazing? I met my future wife there. Divine appointment.
More Than Education: A Transformation
Bible school introduced me to praise and worship, faith teachings, missions, and prayer like I’d never known. My life changed in that environment. And what started with “just enough for summer” became a lifelong mission.
Faith Over Intellect: Let It Be Unto Me
Too often, our intellect blocks what God wants to do. Like Mary, when she heard the angel’s message, she asked, “How can this be?” But ultimately she said:
“Let it be unto me according to your word.”
That’s faith. Not having all the answers, but choosing to believe anyway. Revelation doesn’t come to the skeptical mind first. It comes to the believing heart.
Hebrews 11:3 says:
“By faith we understand.”
Pillars of a Life Transformed
Looking back, I can see four pillars that carried me:
Counting the cost – Making a real decision to follow Jesus.
Loving the Word – Immersing myself in Scripture.
Attending Bible College – A place of growth and divine appointments.
Letting Faith Lead – Choosing heart-belief over head-knowledge.
Your Turn
If you’re standing at a crossroads in life, wondering what’s next, consider this: maybe it’s not about understanding everything. Maybe it’s about saying, “Lord, I believe. Let it be unto me according to Your word.”
That one decision might just change your life—forever.
