The Secret to Everything
“He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing.” —John 15:5
Whether we are talking about healing, direction, relationships, or the abundant life, everything comes down to “hearing God.”
So often we try to imitate what we’ve been taught, and we try principles and steps to reach our goal, but we often find ourselves frustrated.
The statement I hear so often is, “I’ve tried everything you teach, but it isn’t working.”
Therein lies the problem. I am teaching from my relationship with God of over 48 years. I teach what has come alive in my life, but the only way it will be meaningful to others is if it “comes alive” in their lives as well.
When we speak of healing, we can see that Jesus healed in many different ways: with His Word, by the laying on of hands, by being physically touched, by recognizing the faith of the sick, by spitting on a man’s eyes, and by rebuking demons. There was no one size fits all method.
Each person who was healed was approaching Jesus because of something that had come alive within them. The Spirit had quickened them to seek Him, and in each case, they had different approaches.
The woman with the issue of blood saw herself healed if she could but touch the hem of Jesus’ garment. The man on the stretcher with his friends felt that if they could just get into His presence, he could be healed. The Centurion had a revelation of Jesus’ authority. Many others simply came to “hear Him and to be healed.”
It is our “hearing” that really is the key to everything in the Christian life. Faith only comes by hearing—spiritual hearing (Rom. 10:17). Once we have heard Him or been “quickened” by the Spirit, we will know what to do and say. It will be a natural outflow of an inner conviction and expectation.
We can’t copy what worked for someone else. We must have our own “light bulb” moment from the Lord and walk in the faith it brings.
