The Christmas holidays can be a time of extremes.

For some it is extremely joyful with family and friends, and for others, whether they’re with family or not, it can be a time of loneliness and longing rather than belonging.

In fact, when some are seated with family and friends at a beautifully decorated holiday table, they may find themselves lonelier than ever, wishing they were sitting somewhere—anywhere—else.

When it should be the most joyful season, this time of year can remind us we aren’t where we want to be in life. We see others with better jobs, bigger houses and looking better than we think we look. You could get down right depressed!

But what if you thought about it in a different light this Christmas. Where are you really sitting?

“And God raised us up with Christ and seated us with him in the heavenly realms in Christ Jesus.” — Ephesians 2:6

Imagine what that table looks like! I dare say it would be the grandest table ever, but there’s even more than that.

See yourself seated right next to Jesus, and at this table, there is no sickness or disease, no poverty or lack, no fear or depression. At this table, you have everything you could ever need or want, so you aren’t longing for anything. At this table, God’s love, joy, hope and peace surround you, and His power flows through you.

Sitting next to Jesus, you take your eyes off yourself and worship the beauty of His majesty with all the angels!

Can you see it?

When you are sitting at the best table there is, you cease to yearn for another one at which to sit, and everything else pales in comparison.

So, no matter what physical table you find yourself at this Christmas, see yourself at the grandest, most glorious table of all, seated beside the Lover of your soul—the One who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light. See yourself partaking of every gift He came to give you.

See, Christmas truly is all about where you sit!

Merry Christmas!
