Who Are You Now?
by Barry Bennett
Who are you now?
Did you know that when you were born again, God came to live in you? (See John 14:23.)
All of His attributes, His nature, His love, desires and power have made their abode in you! Why would God want to live IN men? Why wouldn’t He be happy ruling from afar? This is a mystery, as Paul declared, but Christ IN you is the hope of glory. There must be a purpose for Him living in us.
“For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.” —Philippians 2:13
The purpose is that God wants to live THROUGH you. He wants the world to know Him when they know you! He wants others to see His goodness, His patience, His generosity, His love and His purity. God is motivating you to be like Him.
“To this end I also labor, striving according to His working which works in me mightily.” —Colossians 1:29
Each of us has a purpose in Christ. Actually, we all have multiple purposes, and those purposes can change and evolve throughout the course of our lives. I am a husband, father and grandfather, but I am also a teacher. In each of these areas He is at work in me motivating me to manifest who He is in my various purposes.
Paul refers to this as God’s ‘grace.’
“But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me was not in vain; but I labored more abundantly than they all, yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” —1 Corinthians 15:10
To walk in grace is to walk in the reality of God’s strength and purpose within us. We can no longer say, “Well, that’s just the way I am,” when we are tempted to get into the flesh. The flesh is not who we are.
God is living within us, working mightily to motivate us to live in the strength of His grace!
