There is plenty of evidence in the Word that Jesus was and is God.

If Jesus was only man, then His sacrifice was quite useless. If He was not God, we are still in our sins. We cannot be saved, and Jesus died in vain. His life could only be worth the life of another man.

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. —1 Timothy 3:16

  1. Worship is for God alone.  “Worship means to prostrate oneself in homage, reverence, to adore, make obeisance, to hold by the feet. Worship is reserved for God alone. The angels refused worship in Revelation 19:10 and 22:8-9. Men refused worship in Acts 10:25-26 and 14:11-18.

  1. Only God can forgive sins. – Jesus told the man who was sick of the palsy that his sins were forgiven and was accused of blasphemy by the scribes because only God can forgive sins. Jesus was and is God! In the Lord’s Prayer in Luke 11:4, we were told to pray to God to, “…forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us.” 1 John 1:9 says, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

  1. Jesus is our Savior– In 1 Timothy 1:1, Paul’s introduction says, Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the commandment of God our Savior, and Lord Jesus Christ….” Titus 4:10 tells us, For therefore we both labor and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Savior of all men….” And then in Titus 2:13, Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Savior Jesus Christ.”

  1. Jesus is the Creator.  John 1:3, speaking of the Word made flesh (Jesus) …All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made.” Colossians 1:16-17, For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible … all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist.

The Bible gives many more scriptures to show us that Jesus was, is and always will be the second person of the Trinity and God incarnate. Yet, He humbled Himself, became flesh (a man) and gave Himself for our redemption. Oh, what a Savior!
