Behind The Scenes of God With Us
Even before I knew CBC was starting a Creative Arts program, I felt drawn to the skits I had seen students perform. I knew God was calling me into this, but I was nervous about stepping out!
When I saw that auditions for the play, God With Us, were that day, I knew this could be my chance to answer God’s call on my life. It was “now or never,” so I scribbled my name down on the sign-up sheets.
Just that morning, I fought back tears as I heard God speaking to my heart through the song “I Have Decided to Follow Jesus.” Although I was still nervous about the auditions, I had such a peace on the inside after that. Not even once did I think about backing out, even though the butterflies in my stomach made it hard to think.
I am so glad that I listened to the leading of the Holy Spirit because I am now one of the cast members of God With Us!
Through rehearsals and studying on my own, the Bible has come alive in front of me! I can now look at these Bible stories with new eyes, put myself into what it would have been like to be alive then, and feel how they felt in the wilderness or how they made the decision to die standing up for their God.
The talent and personal relationship with God of our director, Elizabeth, have specially impacted my heart. At 5 years old, her teacher told her, “Talk to God, and God will talk to you.” I now have this on a white board in my room with Jeremiah 33:3 above it: “Call unto me, and I will answer you and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.”
I’m so thankful to get to be a part of touching people’s lives through the Creative Arts program here at Charis. I can’t wait to see how God flows through God With Us. I know it will touch many lives—just as it’s touched mine.

This original production, with script and music written by Robert and Elizabeth Muren, reenacts the powerful story of God’s promise to Abraham to bless all nations of the earth. This event culminates in a musical finale celebrating the redemption of the Word becoming flesh.
