My Wife—In a Bar?
If someone came up to you, and said, “I saw Barry’s wife coming out of a bar last night!” You might believe it. But if they came up to me and said that, I would know it was a lie.
Why? I’ve been married to her for 36 years, and I know that she doesn’t even know where there are any bars!
The more you know someone, the more sure you are of their character and their actions. You nor anyone else could sew doubt into my heart about my wife because we know each other.
It’s the same with God.
Adam and Eve were created in the image of God, and all of us have been recreated in the image of God and were born again. We are one with Him. But if we don't know Him, people can come in and sew doubt about His true nature.
I know lots of born-again Christians that don't have a clue about who God is.
Why? Because they don't really know Him. They don't believe that He is good. They don't believe that in His presence is fullness and joy. In their minds, in His presence is all kinds of guilt, condemnation and negative things.
When Jesus prayed for us in John 17, He prayed that we would “know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent” (John 17:3).
In the Greek language, the word know in this scripture is a Jewish idiom for sexual intercourse between a man and a woman. That is knowing someone intimately—just as I know my wife.
When you know God and His true nature that intimately, no one will be able to steal your peace, your joy, your victory, your faith or your authority—because you know Him.
You can laugh at the lies, knowing full well that God isn’t like that anymore than my wife came out of a bar!
