The Word Works!
I grew up in a traditional church. There were a lot of things I didn’t learn there, but one thing I’m thankful for is the way they taught me to respect God’s Word.
This post was written by Charis Bible College instructor, Pastor Lawson Perdue.
The Word of God can change your life—it changed mine.
Smith Wigglesworth said this about the Word: “Read it through. Write it down. Pray it in. And work it out.” How do you do that? Give the Word a place of preeminence in your life. Paul wrote,
But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.
2 Timothy 3:14-17
When Paul wrote to Timothy, Timothy was feeling discouraged. Maybe he’d gotten so busy “doing the ministry” that he didn’t have time for the Word. Maybe he didn’t feel the Scripture he had (the Old Testament and stories of Jesus) was able to meet the needs of his New Testament believers.
But Paul basically told Timothy, “All Scripture is inspired by God and useful to instruct His people. Stick with the Word.”
Scripture makes us “wise unto salvation.” It shows us who God is and how to have relationship with Him through Christ. Scripture leads us to eternal life.
But eternal life isn’t just living forever. John 17:3 says, “And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
Eternal life is knowing God. And the only way we can know God is through His Word.
Stick with the Word. It works!
Learn how to change the picture on the inside, so you see a harvest of the promises of God in life!
The Word of God is full of promises; promises for our health, our safety, our prosperity and our peace; promises for every area of life.
But just knowing those promises exist is not enough. If we don't understand what Grace has provided for us; if we don't posses an accurate picture of who God is; we can hinder the power and life of God's Word from producing a harvest in our life.
In The Power and Life of the Word learn how to change the picture on the inside, so you see a harvest of the promises of God in life.
